Star Wars: The High Republic – Tempest Breaker is out today!
The further adventures of Lourna Dee – plus, children's novels, movie pitches and Project: Montana!
Today's the day! My third Star Wars full-cast audio drama launches – Star Wars: The High Republic - Tempest Breaker: six hours and seven minutes of action, intrigue, heartache and fun in a galaxy far, far away!
It follows the continued story of Lourna Dee, an often brutal Twi'lek pirate and mercenary who found herself as a member of the Nihil, the anarchic band of vicious raiders who have been plaguing the Jedi throughout the High Republic saga.
Both a sequel to my previous audio drama, Tempest Runner, and a continuation of the action laid out in my last run of Marvel THR comics, Tempest Breaker sees Lourna team up with former allies and enemies to help save the Republic from a terrible blight that is wiping out planets. Anything for a Chancellor's pardon!
Thanks to Collider, you can listen to an exclusive 17-minute preview to get an idea of what is in store for Lourna and her crew.
And yes, that clip features an uncredited cameo from yours truly. Can you spot it?

I have to admit this one was tricky! Coming so near the end of the initiative, there were a lot of threads to pull together. Plus, I was all too aware that not everyone would be up-to-date with the events of the comic, but don't worry, I try to bring everyone up to speed with who's who and what's been going down. A big doff of my cap to editor Tom Hoeler, director Kevin Thompson and producer Nick Martorelli for bringing it all together so masterfully!
And, while the full thanks will be printed in the script book next May, I did want to publically say a personal thank you to Lucasfilm's Creative Director, Mike Siglain, for this one. I was originally down to write another novel for Phase III but was unwell as we approached the start date, the writing of Path of Vengeance having coincided with a sudden dip in my mental health. I'd been nervous talking to Mike about it. Admitting that something is wrong is scary at the best of times, even more so when you're a freelancer! Even saying it now is making me uncomfortable. I was convinced I was about to ruin everything, never to get a job again, but Mike was brilliant. He immediately told me that the novel could be reassigned and, most importantly, followed up by asking me to write Tempest Breaker instead. I was so grateful, as it gave me something else to focus on, something I knew I would be able to handle once I had to dive into scripting... and I haven't looked back since! I think it's really important to acknowledge these moments, and the support of those you work with, so thank you, Mike! I'll be raising a glass to you today, sir!

IN OTHER NEWS...
Away from Tempest Runner, I've been busy working on a new children's book, trying out an entirely new way of working which seems to be going very well. I'll let you know more about that next week in the newsletter.
Meanwhile, artist extraordinaire Nick Brokenshire has been working on layouts for our new DSTLRY book. Here's a little shot of his drawing board that he sent me at the end of the week to pique my interest...
I've now seen all the layouts – and the first full page of issue one – and it's an absolute joy! I love working with Nick and can already tell this is going to be his best work yet! Watch this page for more sneak peeks over the next few months. We wish we could tell you the book's name, but that is firmly NDAd at the moment.
After a short discussion within the team – which sees us reunited with our Dead Seas editor, Chase Marotz – we've decided to call it Project: Montana in the meantime!
The rest of the week will see me continuing apace on the novel, but please keep your fingers crossed for me as I pitch a story for a new animated movie script! I've been working with a director on this one for a while and it's our first time with it in front of a producer! I will be stress-eating mince pies between now and then.
Any excuse.
THAT'S ALL FOLKS!
Right, its Tuesday and I need to hit my word quota for the day so I can watch this week's episode of The Box of Delights! Those wolves keep on running and we have the blu-ray now which is SPLENDIFEROUS, especially the 100-minute making off documentary!
Until next time, look after yourself and each other,
