TALKING SLASHERS, STAR WARS AND BUNNIES IN SPACE WITH COLLECTOR'S CONFESSIONS
I had a ball geeking out with the guys at Collectors Confessions. We talked about my latest comics, Godfather of Hell and Night of the Slashers, before touching on my upcoming DSTLRY book with Nick Brokenshire.
Along the way, we also got into:
- My early comic-reading days, devouring British humour comics such as the Beano and Nutty before moving onto Marvel UK's colossal output in the 80s and, of course, 2000AD.
- My first comic book opportunity, writing Power Rangers.
- How Doctor Who helped me first break into storytelling and then into US comics.
- The joy and, sometimes, absolute chaos of fan debates and the importance of embracing fun in the things you love.
As you'd expect we also talk a lot about Star Wars, from Jaxxon to The High Republic and beyond (as I discuss my upcoming post-THR life!)

NEW FEAR OF THE JEDI COVER!
The hype train for Star Wars: The High Republic - Fear of the Jedi #1 is well and truly with this stunning variant that Marvel revealed as part of their February solicits. That magnificent Kelnacca is the work of Greg Land.
Issue one of the new run goes on sale 19th February, and here’s that solicit:
WHAT SCARES THE JEDI?
New York Times Best-selling author Cavan Scott (Venom: Zombiotes, Union Jack the Ripper) returns with artist Marika Cresta (Doctor Aphra, Captain Carter) for the galaxy-shattering final arc of Star Wars: The High Republic.
As fighting within the Nihil Occlusion Zone intensifies, Jedi Master Keeve Trennis is set upon a path that will change her life forever.
Guest-starring The Acolyte’s Wookiee Jedi Master Kelnacca alongside fan-favourite characters from Star Wars: The High Republic novels, audio dramas and comics.
So, the countdown has begun, but before we get there, we have Tempest Breaker next Tuesday, 3rd December, which leads directly into this final series!
READING RECOMMENDATION: HELLEBORE MAGAZINE
I'm behind on my reading, so am catching up on my beloved Hellebore magazine, before diving into this year’s Yuletide Haunting edition next week.
Reading Hellebore is always my happy place. It's beautifully designed and packed with fascinating articles on folklore, the occult, folk horror, the hauntology-tinged world of 1970s TV and film.
I come away with so many gems each and every issue. This time The Storytelling Issue has blessed me by introducing me to legendary folk band, Pentangle, all thanks to Nick Freeman’s article on the Tales of Tam Lin.
I’m sitting here listening to Pentangle Reunions: Live and BBC Sessions 1982-2011 and it's just spellbinding.
Editor Maria Pérez Cuervo always seems to know what my soul needs when reading an issue. It’s a kind of magic.
Give yourself a spooky treat by exploring Hellebore yourself!
THAT'S ALL FOLKS!
Right, I need to get back to hammering the keyboard!
Until next time, look after yourself and each other,
