A perfect Sunday with...Erin A. Craig

The everlasting importance of brunch, cursed films and angsty Flanagan monologues

A perfect Sunday with...Erin A. Craig

Every week, a top writer, artist, actor or creator reveals how they’d fill their perfect Sunday, sharing their favourite comfort reads, movies, food… anything that would make their weekend great.

This week it's the turn of Erin A. Craig, author of The Thirteenth Child.

Erin's perfect Sunday… brunch

Brunch should never be regulated only to Sundays! It’s the best of all foods! My perfect meal would be a fried egg sandwich (my husband makes THE BEST!) —toasted sourdough, two perfectly runny eggs, pepperjack cheese, and a thick cut of bacon—with a mess of diced potatoes and onions, a bowl of fresh berries, and a bottomless mug of black coffee brewed far too strong.

Erin's perfect Sunday… read

One of my absolutely favourite reads is Marisha Pessl’s Night Film. The ending will forever haunt me, and I reread it every so often hoping to be definitively persuaded with which way the story turns out… still waiting! It’s got a blend of my most beloved interests—cursed films, cults, mysteries on top of mysteries, and locations fleshed out so well they become actual characters within the tale.

Erin's perfect Sunday movie

Ooh, this is a toss-up between Ready or Not and the greatest film ever made… Jurassic Park. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen it but I absolutely could quote the entire thing at you!

Erin's perfect Sunday... TV binge

I’m pretty smitten with anything Mike Flanagan directs but Midnight Mass is currently at the top of the list for me. I love the setting and how the surprise of the plot slowly plays out. And no one writes angsty monologues like Mike. Forever in love!

Erin's perfect Sunday… podcast

I don’t listen to a ton of podcasts, but I do adore Agatha Andrews’ She Wore Black. She discusses and reviews books dark and gothic and I get my best TBR recommendations from her.

Erin's perfect Sunday… album

Daisy Jones and the Six, on vinyl, with the windows open and a little breeze pushing the curtains around!

Erin's perfect Sunday… treat

Taking my daughter to the tennis courts to work on her serve and then out for ice cream on the way home!

Erin A. Craig's The Thirteenth Child was published on 26th September 2024, and is available to buy now.

Erin A. Craig is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of House of Salt and Sorrows, Small Favors, and House of Roots and Ruin. She has always loved telling stories. After getting her BFA in Theatre Design and Production from the University of Michigan, she stage-managed tragic operas filled with hunchbacks, séances, and murderous clowns, then decided she wanted to write books that were just as spooky. An avid reader, decent quilter, rabid basketball fan, and collector of typewriters, brass figurines, and sparkly shoes, Erin makes her home in West Michigan with her husband and daughter.
